Canterbury 2s VS Bromley RFC

SOBERING SATURDAY FOR BROMLEY

After last week’s hard fought and thrilling encounter against Dartfordians, Bromley had another very tough encounter away to Canterbury Seconds and although a strong side was selected a number of players were not available mainly due to injury which was not ideal. Not surprisingly with the resources available to them Canterbury are unbeaten so far and if things continue as they are will have won the league at a canter (sorry) well before the end of the season.

No real point in dwelling on the game. Canterbury were big and powerful in the forwards and pacey and skilful in the backs. They won 36-10 and Bromley battled gamely for eighty minutes and scored two tries in the second half to their credit. They were again significantly disrupted by injury trying to stem the tide coming their way and were reduced to fourteen men and uncontested scrums. Apparently, Canterbury cannot be promoted from this league. Don’t know the thinking behind that but surely needs looking at.

No respite for the firsts as next week is another very tough fixture away to Beccehamians and there certainly will not be any Xmas presents there. At home, the seconds took on Canterbury thirds and this was a better match up. The Canterbury side were mainly young, fit and well drilled. With some of the Bromley second team drafted into the first team squad a couple of new faces were on display and one or two others had to play out of position. Needless to say, it took them a while to settle into patterns of play but a good game developed, however, Canterbury had the edge and were more clinical in their execution. At one stage in the second half, it looked as if they might run away with it but Bromley rallied to score a couple of tries and earn a bonus point losing 26-41. Bartlett was awarded man of the match as he was a powerful presence in the forward exchanges.

At the moment no other games are scheduled for next Saturday.
